The Polish Power Exchange registered PSCMI (Polish Steam Coal Market Index) as a trademark with the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market under number 013258744, and thereby secured its legal protection in the territory of the European Union for a ten-year period, i.e. until 15 September 2024.
The registration of the PSCMI trademark is connected with the introduction of indices for standard steam coal sold by mines and coal supply companies to electricity and heat generators on the domestic market, which have been published by POLPX in cooperation with the Industrial Development Agency since 1 October 2014. The indices rely of monthly ex-post data collected by the Katowice Branch of the Industrial Development Agency which, on behalf of the Minister of Economy, implements a Statistical Survey Programme of Official Statistics on "Hard Coal and Lignite Mining Industry".
